"Industrial Tropic"Sculpture by ou8nrtist2 "Industrial Tropic"Sculpture by ou8nrtist2
This work finally got installed today after it's 10K paint job.The colors change as you walk around the piece and as the light changes. It forms the focal point for Palm Square shopping center on the North side of Santa Rosa,(where I live). At the outset the client told me the piece would be painted and I also was restricted to the banana leaf motif, both aspects took me far outside my "comfort zone". However I was not required to install the piece nor oversee the paint aspect, and all permits, fees, and ordinance applications were taken care of by the client. For these reasons I took the job. I was also encouraged the more research I did on the paint. The only time I ever grow is when I'm taken out of my comfort zone so I rolled with it.Under these circumstances it's definitely not the most creative work I've ever done but I'm reasonably happy with the outcome ,as is the client, and in this particular case,I DO think the colors add more interest to the form...
Height 12 feet.
The city of Santa Rosa has a new ordinance that 1% of any new building OR retrofit budget must be spent on art. Thus my long time clients needed to spend money in accordance with the major upgrades for this shopping center that they own.So they came to me.And another side benefit was that the City government arts committee was very familiar with my past public works and put my clients application on the fast track because of it...

interesting local policy. thanks for that bit of information. makes it so personal :D
quite a static installment, somehow countering the wavy, breezy nature of palm trees. so the changing color makes the sculpture look as if it were swaying?
like a mood ring? or is the paint just simple paint...
To me it is extremely interesting to read about the coming-to-be of a true artist's work. Thank you for being so elaborate!!! Hope you don't mind "me watching you" ? Thank you!

It might sound strange,
but I'm used to being watched.
And I know the power of disclosing the inner processes as well as the outer processes to inspire and encourage fledgling artists along the way. That's the way it was for me in my formative years. I was always desperate for someone that would simply tell the truth...

It might be not your best work, but it for sure has something interesting. I don't think it's easy to create something when someone gives you restrictions, so to me you've done a really wonderful work!

Perhaps not as interesting as most of your work but it is lovely and the colors do give it interest. Sounds like overall it was a good thing. You learned something, made money and your client benefited from the process as well. Sounds like a nice win win situation all around. And although I'm not a fan of bananas the leaves are quite nice.

Any publicity is good publicity.
And in another shocking surprise,The San Francisco Chronicle wants to do a short blip on the Fusion Line of sinks that I collaborate with Bohemian Stoneworks on...
It will be in the Home section sometime soon I'm told...
