This is a piece in FORGED STAINLESS STEEL with the suckers plug welded on (except the small ones near the tip) which were mig welded freehand. It was designed as a dramatic entrance piece (door handle ) to a restaurant. The owner of the suishi bar thought my price of $700.oo too expensive even though I offered to trade half the price in food.LOL, so I gave it to friend who appreciates it. It's perhaps relevant to note ,that not everyone is into ART or even recognizes its function and value in society. I've long ago stopped arguing with people who"don't get it"and prefer to use that energy on those that do...It does no good to flog a dead horse.

Wait, so the final offer was for him to give you $350 in cash, and the other $350 in sushi?

Yes...I have several "accounts" at restaurants from friends who give me free dinners until the tab amounts to something significant,at which point they choose something already made or I make them something new ,depending on my work load and money situation...We both get what we want and keep the government out of it. Or I negotiate for half cash and half trade. I do this for more than just restaurants, doctor, dentist, car mechanic, massage etc. The CONCEPT of money has always been strangely difficult to grasp for me. I just can't seem to wrap my head around the idea. But bartering, exchange and trade I'm quite comfortable with.

This is a great door handle! I can't believe the restaurant owner through it was too expensive....No one seems to appreciate the amount of time and effort that goes into making pieces like this *tsk*.......

And $350 of sushi...mmmmmmmmmm

Some people do...I've been blessed with some pretty good patronage in recent years but it manifests quite differently in this country compared to Europe where there is a tradition in place and the term Noblesse Oblige still applys and means something.
You're right :) some people do, I'm so negative sometimes :XD:

Well this life(the life of an artist) is certainly not easy. If anyone ever told you it was,or intimated that, then they lied or were simply ignorant. But because of the "difficulties",it tends to separate quite quickly the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. Those that are left standing have an inner fortitude and commitment that probably can't be accomplished any other way. I don't think you're necessarily negative, but still it's wasted energy to regret the way things are instead of putting ALL your resources into the way you WANT things to be...
this is absolutely incredible
jeez
Wow, an incredible piece, a pity for the sushi place that they couldn't afford it. Aquariums might be in the market for something like that, I don't really know =P

I hope your friend has it where people can see it, it truely is beautiful

Thank you Opiatebreak,
I see you have a penchant for octopie as well...
I'm composing an octopus belt buckle in my head but it hasn't jelled yet. I'm thinking bronze and stainless steel since I'm doing several commissions right now that blend the two. I may do a small production run like 25-50pcs. and have the blanks laser cut in stainless ,then apply and weld the bronze by hand...
You and LuPie friends? I have no idea where Chester is in the U.K.
