From suggestor: "I really do not know how what to say about it other than it is beautiful!" Repose by ~ou8nrtist2 is very carefully constructed, I really like th artists ability to work with the small discs to form shapes and contours of the face and body and especially to use shape to represent shadow and areas that you might not see because of it. the dissolution of surface, if its all there is, reveals the hollowness of being.
so cruel and beautiful at once.

awful, in the old meaning of the word - seeing it renders me full of awe.
your mastery of fabrication technique is matched by your skill in choosing what to plate and what to leave open.
truly, truly awful.
I remain stunned.
had I the money such artwork merits, I'd commission you in a heartbeat.

So beautiful!

It looks like you had someone lay underneath while you set scales on her and then welded them while she was still in the shell rhen to remove it! Stunning! ..Like the perfect armour, yet so immobilizing..

Can it be erected or does the weight make the fine weld spots to collapse?

..I want one for the home I'd love to build some day.

It is a very solid piece. All the welds are on the inside of the figure. It is made after taking sectional body molds from the live model. The molds are restructured to handle the heat of welding and the weight of steel. After building the separate sections within the molds they are removed and finally carefully welded together to make up the full figure.

Now that I think of it, isn't the term "repose" a fencing term? Any relation?

Thank you Rob,
The model for the piece was my girlfriend at the time, and I confess we were both just a little stunned as well when the piece was finally completed.I had somehow captured her grace and sensuality in stainless steel and it got me thinking a lot about the parallels of my efforts with the ancient art of ALCHEMY and the modern use of SYMPATHETIC MAGIC,both subjects I've written about subsequently.

this is absolutely stunning!!!! i love the entire composition, from the way her hair falls off the table to the way you placed each disk! I also love how you didn't cover the entire body in the disks, it adds a mysterious quality to it. What inspired you to use spare parts to a washing machine?

Thank you so much Sarah,
They are not spare parts, but rather the scrap left over from the manufacturing process (of washing machines).Punching actually.
Stainless steel is normally very expensive. I had a friend who worked at the factory and got me a whole bunch of these discs of various sizes and I immediately saw the utility of using stainless steel for my figures instead of regular steel(which I HAD been using).Stainless as you may know does not rust so THESE figures can be shown outside with no fear of rust or deterioration...
And incidentally the hair was quite a dilemma. I tried several configurations until I hit on the idea of making it fall off the edge of the pedestal.
That simple little contrivance was all the figure needed to finish it off and give it an immediacy that transcended the static materials. It is what the ancient Greek sculptors called "action at rest". The POTENTIAL for movement is nearly palpable in the way the figure is flexed and composed...

I can see what you mean by an 'action at rest' the Greeks really knew what they were talking about!!! I love the hair, you did a fantastic job! i'm glad you thought of putting is off the edge of the pedestal, it really finishes the 'action at rest' idea.
Wow. That would have been a pretty penny for stainless steel! Awesome grab! and now it won't rust!!!! even better!!!!!

I feel that under the current political trend of spreading the wealth you should share your DD success with others members and split half of your recognition with me.

Good job Stephen!
