Poseidons Rest by ou8nrtist2 Poseidons Rest by ou8nrtist2
This is one of my fantasy bed creations.
Art Nouveau Style forged steel bed frame.
It is an ode to Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea (and earthquakes). He was also known as "Earthshaker".. There are chambered nautilus shells at the top of the headboard and in the center ,his symbol, the trident. It is configured here as queen size but is easily converted to king. The whole thing bolts together and is VERY STOUT and does not squeak.LOL
The central pattern of vertical bars in both the headboard and footboard were inspired by the remarkable Roman aqueducts, evidence of which is still extent across Europe. Not only their incredible skill but also their invention of concrete allowed the Romans to build some of the longest lasting structures of engineering in the world. Also their breakwaters for many seaports along the Mediterranean still protect and shelter to this very day. I can only feel even though the Romans co-opted the Greek Pantheon and so renamed Poseidon as NEPTUNE,that his reign as Lord of the Oceans continued unabated.
In keeping with the Mediterranean theme I choose the Art Nouveau Style to express my appreciation of the fantasy realm and felt this a fitting platform to inspire and engender the creativity I find in dreams.

Finally SOLD Christmas 2010

I'm retrofitting it to a California King size because the neat guy that bought it is very tall. It's turning into a major operation but it's OK cause I like him(and his family)a lot.LOL.
When this goes out it will give me the (psychic)space to consider making another fantasy bed, maybe Gothic this time...

I have a really good and cheap shipper here for domestic transport, but to Austria ,that's a different story...I don't even know the best way if one were sending 250 lbs of steel to Europe.Would it be by air or by boat from California?

The bed WAS $3500,
but is now for sale for $2500 US.
I don't know the best way to ship to Europe.
It would require some research...

I have a potential buyer in Denver, who I'm currently doing a lot of kitchen hardware for.
She honored me with a visit several years ago,and is the perfect person for this piece.
But I suspect I'd need to reconfigure it as a California King instead of just a queen size...LOL

I just posted a new image of a Celtic war shield,
the bed is in the background.
I had to convert that room to an office,so the bed is now dismantled but still for sale for about $3000.oo
Thank you for your comments,it served me well for a couple of years.
I'm sort of working up to another one since I have a bit more skill than when i made that one,but I'm not sure what style I'll choose.
Gothic could be nice...

And believe me, if I had the money I'd be buying this in a heartbeat. But I just got fired 2 days ago :P So I'm unemployed.

Ahhhhhhhhhh. Very nice. I remember seeing this previously. I wish I had re-visited it before I started construction! Would have changed a thing or two about the actual frame I constructed. All is well. I never expected to get the first one right :)

And it's so fun to improvise as you go along.
This one had many places for restraints inspired by the little vixen I was with at the time.
But the bigger part of it was the dedication to Poseidon who was my favorite God (or one of them)growing up on the coast of Maine in a completely marine environment. But Poseidon is also the God of earthquakes so still relevant where I live now...
I can't wait to see what you've put together...
