oh whoa....very emotive, and I can definitely see the ophelia in her. The way her hair spreads out, its like she's in the river already. Beautiful.
beautiful. :+fav:

Thank you. You see exactly what I saw as well. One of my students at Berkeley modeled for this and she had an exquisite jaw line that was the inspiration for the figure, but when I got it done and cast ,it became Ophelia. She now rests in a fountain on my deck...
Mysterious and a bit haunting but so beautiful! outstanding metal art!
I made this from a mold off one of my students. She had the most exquisite jaw line.
The process is Lost Wax,so the original is sculpted entirely in wax then cast in plaster with "sprues" and "vents". Molten bronze is poured in the mold and all the wax is burned off as a gas and allows the bronze to occupy all the space. After cooling the plaster is broken away and the solidified bronze sculpture remains.
I freehanded the hair by melting and dripping wax in a semi-controllable way.
She now sits semi-submerged in a fountain and I've added lotus flowers fabricated in bronze and stainless.
Interesting process, nice results!
Positively gorgeous... Also makes me jealous when I browse your gallery that they canceled my Bronze casting class.... T_T

I've heard that before,
Don't let that stop you.
Go out and get some hard carving wax (dark brown) and some soft(red) and keep sculpting. Find a foundry somewhere nearby and bug em till they do your stuff. Try trading work for them casting your pieces. that way you'll learn as you go ,and they'll get another hand...

With all the colleges near you ,isn't there another place to take classes ?
What a great casting! I find your technique of dripping the wax by hand to create the hair very interesting:) Do you have a photo of the lotus flower you included in your fountain?
