SITE SPECIFIC DESIGN This is a collaboration with Patrick Miller of bohemianstoneworks.com My sinks,my design, but his polished concrete counter top. Since Art Nouveau was the theme on the lower floor and the clients were very enamored with my "organic designed "sinks,I integrated the elements with an organic shaped vanity as well... By "organic design",I mean shapes inspired by nature ,not green materials. The term organic design has become quite confusing in the past 10 years because it can mean two distinctly different things. I was raised with organic design,biomimicry,bio-morphism,and ergonomic shapes. These aspects have little to do with the new meaning of the term as associated with "green" or eco materials and practices... However,I must add that Patrick and I are both very eco oriented. He captures and recycles all the water and excess concrete used in his manufacturing. And I make about 85%of my metal art pieces from recycled metal scrap...
I have a deep hatred of mass produced crap...seeing a person who makes sinks...something that you think everyone MUST buy in a store...is a revelation to me...

So if you meet me Have some courtesy Have some sympathy, and some taste Use all your well-learned politesse Or Ill lay your soul to waste, um yeah
I am a product of my environment.
Growing up ,my parents made nearly everything in the house, furniture, light fixtures, pots and pans...
My father was a master sculptor and my mother was a fabric artist.
I was trained to first think how I could make whatever I needed ,and only as a last resort, to buy something manufactured.
It is strange to see how rare this philosophy and orientation has become in such little time...
Now I am called a "Maker".
Just as I would have been called 3000 years ago in my ancestor's Celtic tribal society.

Yes ,
I first fabricate the sinks then they are cast UPSIDE DOWN on very flat platen tables ,in the studio of my friend and collaborator Patrick Miller of bohemianstoneworks.com He then commences the final wet grinding and polishing. All recycled materials and filtered water by the way. He is very green conscious.
He first takes precise measurements and patterns of the space the piece will go in.
He casts in his studio instead of on-site because he can control all the parameters much better.
This is no ordinary cement also. He spent a year exploring just the right admixtures and elements to create an amalgam that could handle the micro expansion that occurs in my metal sinks if boiling water is poured in them...
