Art Nouveau Bed Frame retrofit by ou8nrtist2 Art Nouveau Bed Frame retrofit by ou8nrtist2
I sold this before Christmas with a promise to retrofit it to a California King Size.My client is quite tall and has kids and a dog. I know at some point they'll all be in this bed, thus the thing must be strong and not fall apart... It turned into a pretty major operation but it's for a good friend so I really don't mind making the extra effort.
All forged steel.Everything bolts together.
The theme for the piece was an ode to Poseidon. His symbol (the trident) is evident in the center of the headboard and those are chambered nautilus shells at the top.
I enjoy making fantasy beds now and then. I'm thinking maybe Gothic for the next one...

Very VERY nice work, Metalwork is one thing I've never been able to incorporate into my projects, can't afford to drop lots of cash to go to night school to learn welding and don't know anyone who would teach. SO it's wood and stone for me for now.

This gives me a feeling of what Captain Nemo's bed might have been like.

That was such a fun project because I love to design in the Art Nouveau vernacular but also because it was commissioned by a good friend...

My father taught me to weld when I was 8(much to my mother's horror),because I had an inordinate love of FIRE. But my father knew if that love was GUIDED and I was taught to CONTROL it,that it could become a very powerful creative force. He knew this because he himself had the same attraction too.In my family the special rapport with fire is hereditary.

How interesting. You are able to trace you gift to not only being memorized by the fire but the family lineage...I have nothing like that with my interest in art, it is all me which can be hard at times...how great for you, you've done so much with your career already, I hope to follow in your footsteps with the way you also use your art for business and create such clean pieces! Bravo

Thank you for your kind words.
One thing that has helped me immeasurably over time and that might help you too is; remembering that the CREATING of any particular art piece is the major charge, not what comes after.
This has helped me to let go of work once it's made,to not freak out if I get ripped off, plagiarized,or work is stolen. And that any money I might actually earn by selling a piece is only icing on the cake.
And if by some fluke you happen to get some broad recognition for your work during your lifetime, remembering why you did it in the first place will help keep everything in perspective...

Exactly...I'm not trying to reach out for fame by any selfish means it would just be nice if someone actually bought a piece of two of my work. Being able to live off of what you love doing is such a blessing and I strive to make that a possibility for me in the future (even through hard times) However I keep close to heart your words of wisdom, thank you
